Price: € 220 000 | Ref.: 1865 | Views: 897
Reaction from viewers in July 2018: "It is absolutely a terrific property and we both agreed it was head and shoulders above any other - wonderful garden, very solid barn with potential, lovely house with scope to expand into the loft and with a lovely character and it a very restful spot next to fields. It had charm in abundance and was clearly kept to an outstanding standard of decor and repair by the both of you. You can be proud to own it. “
A bright, spacious and well presented Maison de Maître, built in 1870. Sitting on the edge of a village just into the Vienne from its border with the Deux Sevres it’s double aspect gives far reaching views over open fields. Just a five minute drive from Thenezay, the nearest small town with shops, hairdressers, restaurants , bar/tabac and a supermarket as well as doctors, dentist and pharmacy, schools and sports hall. Situated halfway between the university town of Poitiers and the historic town of Parthenay.
Plenty to see and do: Poitiers is home of the very popular attraction of Futurescope 20 minutes. Chateaux of the Loire valley plus or minus 1 hour. Ancient city of Tours 1 hour. Puy de Fou (wonderful entertainment for all ages) 100 minutes. Atlantic coast including the extremely popular La Rochelle 90 minutes. A good area for all sports including golf, fishing, boating, walking and cycling. Several airports are within easy reach: Twenty minutes from Poitiers airport and TGV station to Paris and Bordeaux, and also airports in Tours, Nantes and La Rochelle. There are ferry ports in Northern France within 3-5 hours drive.
This house has kept all its charm and character whilst having been restored to a very high standard and remaining an impressive and comfortable family home. A very quiet, tranquil location for this beautiful house that has retained many of its original features.
The property is entered through double iron gates leading into a gravelled driveway with decorative trees and a front garden planted with lavender and roses. There is plenty of parking.
The front entrance to the house is through the original double oak doors into a hallway from which there are 3 large reception rooms. To one side there is a good sized dining room attached to the kitchen. The fully fitted kitchen has a top of the range oven, induction hob, integrated microwave, dishwasher, fridge and freezer. It also has a large double Belfast sink and marble worktops. From the kitchen is a door leading to the garden. To the other side there is a good sized salon/TV room opening through to a very large, comfortable sitting room (38m2) which has a 15kw Jøtul wood burning stove and a vaulted ceiling with French windows opening out onto a paved terrace leading to a beautiful well stocked flower garden.
To the rear of the ground floor there is a large family-sized bathroom/utility room with large storage cupboard and separate WC. Down a staircase from the ground floor is a very useful cellar covering most of the area of the house with an outer door and stone steps leading up to the garden.
On the first floor there are four double bedrooms which all have the original marble fireplaces and polished hardwood floors. There is also a shower room with tiled floor. The staircase leads on to the spacious attic which could easily be converted to bedrooms or games room if anyone should wish.
It has a walled garden of approx 3400m2 with large outbuildings. The barn is big enough to make further accommodation should this be required. Other outbuildings and preau with bbq make for very pleasant summer living. This much loved garden is planted with flowers, shrubs, roses and plenty of fruit trees.
There is oil-fired central heating throughout the house. The house roof was professionally reslated in 2007. All windows are pvc and double glazed. There is an underground cistern which makes watering of the garden possible throughout the summer.
